The Instructor
Do Re Mi GO! Began as a seed in a music-loving mama's heart when Margaret Wages was looking for classes for her toddler son. Its first incarnation was Playful Praise, a music-based Sunday School class for little ones, where children sang their way through Bible stories and liturgical elements. It was lots of fun! |
Seeing first-hand how well children learned music in a group setting, Margaret decided to apply that principle to teaching early childhood piano. Having taught piano one-on-one for several years, she had seen how intimidating it could be for a young child to sit alone with an adult teacher - no matter how fun and personable - and try new things that were sometimes challenging and outside of their comfort zone. It was then that Piano Pals was born! Created for pre-kindergartners,

the Piano Pals curriculum immerses children in the language of music through singing and movement, and then gives them the opportunity to express that language as they explore making music on the piano (actually, small electronic keyboards).
More recently, Margaret began to think about exposing children to musical language at an even earlier age. Rhythm instruments, shakers, and bells are lots of fun, but she wanted to give little ones the experience of exploring pitch and melody through instruments as well. Then she discovered the C scale desk bells! Perfect for little hands whose fingers aren't yet dextrous enough for piano keys, the colorful bells provide just that experience and became the centerpiece of the Do Re Mi GO! Toddler curriculum. In this class, toddlers and their caregivers sing simple songs, play all types of instruments, and begin learning to create melodies using the bells and solfege (do-re-mi-etc.) syllables.

In the fall of 2022, Margaret is excited to bring her newest class, Do Re Mi GO! Preschool, to Juxtaposition Studios. This class for 3, 4, and 5 year olds is designed to be a bridge between Do Re Mi GO! Toddler and Piano Pals. There will be more singing, more movement, more rhythm instruments, as well as exploration of melody and pitch on the bells AND piano keyboards as they grow. It's going to be tons of busy, joyful, musical fun!
